A visa run, strictly, is the longer version: leaving to collect a new visa at a Thai embassy abroad before returning. A foreigner whose passport shows six exemptions in a row and no travel elsewhere is, on the face of it, living in Thailand, and the officer may refuse. There is no appeal at the border; the refusal is stamped and recorded.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>The numerical rule sits in the exemption notification. For years the Bureau has admitted no more than two visa-exempt entries by land or sea per calendar year, and the notification published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026 writes that cap into the exemption from 15 September 2026, when the stay also drops from 60 to 30 days. Nationals of Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia are outside the cap. Air entries have no number, only the discretion described above.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"doing-a-border-run-in-practice\">Faire un \"border run\" en pratique<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>The land crossings used are Aranyaprathet to Poipet (Cambodia), Nong Khai to Vientiane and Mukdahan to Savannakhet (Laos), Mae Sai to Tachileik (Myanmar) and Sadao or Padang Besar to Malaysia. The traveller is stamped out and in the same day. On return the officer may ask for proof of funds (10,000 baht per person or 20,000 baht per family, cash preferred at land borders), an onward ticket out of Thailand within the permitted stay and accommodation bookings. A new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/fr\/glossary\/tdac\/\">TDAC<\/a> is filed for each entry.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>The common mistake is the third land entry in a calendar year: the crossing is refused and the traveller is stuck on the wrong side with a used exit stamp. Poipet reports the highest refusal rate, and officers who suspect a pattern may grant only a few days.
