All court documents and proceedings are in Thai. Divorce is managed under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/th\/glossary\/thai-civil-and-commercial-code\/\">\u0e1b\u0e23\u0e30\u0e21\u0e27\u0e25\u0e01\u0e0e\u0e2b\u0e21\u0e32\u0e22\u0e41\u0e1e\u0e48\u0e07\u0e41\u0e25\u0e30\u0e1e\u0e32\u0e13\u0e34\u0e0a\u0e22\u0e4c<\/a>. This is found in Section 1516, which explains the legal reasons for divorce. If your divorce is uncontested and both spouses agree, you may be able to register it at a district office. But if one party disagrees, or if there are disputes over children or property, the divorce must go to court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Chiang Mai, all divorce cases are heard at the Chiang Mai Family and Juvenile Court. This court is in the Chang Phueak district. If you and your spouse agree on everything, you can register your divorce at a local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/th\/glossary\/amphoe-or-amphur-district-office\/\">\u0e2d\u0e31\u0e21\u0e1e\u0e39\u0e23\u0e4c<\/a>. This includes places like the Mueang Chiang Mai District Office. Even simple cases can benefit from legal help. This is especially true when documents need to be written in both English and Thai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"divorce-options-in-thailand\">\u0e17\u0e32\u0e07\u0e40\u0e25\u0e37\u0e2d\u0e01\u0e43\u0e19\u0e01\u0e32\u0e23\u0e2b\u0e22\u0e48\u0e32\u0e23\u0e49\u0e32\u0e07\u0e43\u0e19\u0e1b\u0e23\u0e30\u0e40\u0e17\u0e28\u0e44\u0e17\u0e22<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two main types of divorce in Thailand: uncontested and contested. This process is faster and cheaper, but both parties must be present and in full agreement. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/th\/glossary\/contested-divorce\/\">\u0e01\u0e32\u0e23\u0e2b\u0e22\u0e48\u0e32\u0e23\u0e49\u0e32\u0e07\u0e17\u0e35\u0e48\u0e21\u0e35\u0e01\u0e32\u0e23\u0e42\u0e15\u0e49\u0e41\u0e22\u0e49\u0e07<\/a> happens when one spouse doesn\u2019t agree to the divorce or disputes the terms. This must go through the Family Court, where a judge will decide the outcome.
