It appears in a legal context in two places: on the profiles of Thai lawyers who studied a science before law, and in the qualification documents that a foreigner submits for a work permit or professional licence. The combination is useful in construction and engineering disputes, environmental and industrial licensing, medical negligence, data protection and intellectual property, where the lawyer must read a technical report as fluently as a contract. On a profile, the B.Sc. sits alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/th\/glossary\/ll-b\/\">\u0e1b\u0e23\u0e34\u0e0d\u0e0d\u0e32\u0e15\u0e23\u0e35\u0e14\u0e49\u0e32\u0e19\u0e01\u0e0e\u0e2b\u0e21\u0e32\u0e22<\/a> and the licence number; the LL.B. and the licence are what matter for court work.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"where-a-foreigner-s-b-sc-matters-legally\">Where a foreigner&#8217;s B.Sc. matters legally<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p><strong>Work permits and professional licences<\/strong> are the main place a degree certificate is examined. The Department of Employment expects a foreign applicant&#8217;s qualifications to match the position, and a B.Sc. in engineering or computing supports a skilled role, subject to the 4:1 Thai-to-foreign employee ratio unless the employer is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/th\/glossary\/boi\/\">\u0e1a\u0e2d\u0e22<\/a>-promoted. Regulated professions, engineering and architecture among them, require a separate licence from the Thai professional council, and some occupations are closed to foreigners regardless of qualification.
