It is the academic foundation of every legal career in Thailand: without an LL.B. from an institution recognised by the Lawyers Council of Thailand, a person cannot apply for the lawyer licence, and without it no one may sit the Thai Bar examination that leads to judicial or prosecutorial office. Thammasat, Chulalongkorn and Ramkhamhaeng are the oldest and largest faculties; Ramkhamhaeng&#8217;s open-admission programme has produced a large share of the country&#8217;s licensed lawyers. A foreign LL.B. is not accepted for the Thai lawyer licence unless the Council has approved the institution, and in any event the licence is limited to Thai nationals. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/th\/glossary\/licensed-thai-lawyer\/\">\u0e17\u0e19\u0e32\u0e22\u0e04\u0e27\u0e32\u0e21\u0e44\u0e17\u0e22\u0e17\u0e35\u0e48\u0e44\u0e14\u0e49\u0e23\u0e31\u0e1a\u0e43\u0e1a\u0e2d\u0e19\u0e38\u0e0d\u0e32\u0e15<\/a> therefore always holds a recognised LL.B., while an LL.B. holder is not necessarily licensed.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"reading-the-letters-on-a-lawyer-s-profile\">Reading the letters on a lawyer&#8217;s profile<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>An LL.B. tells a client that the person completed a law degree, not that he or she may practise. The licence from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailawonline.com\/th\/glossary\/lawyers-council-of-thailand\/\">\u0e2a\u0e20\u0e32\u0e17\u0e19\u0e32\u0e22\u0e04\u0e27\u0e32\u0e21\u0e41\u0e2b\u0e48\u0e07\u0e1b\u0e23\u0e30\u0e40\u0e17\u0e28\u0e44\u0e17\u0e22<\/a> is what confers the right to appear in court, and an LL.M. (master&#8217;s) or a foreign degree adds specialisation rather than any additional right. Graduates then need the Lawyers Council&#8217;s legal practice training and examination to obtain a lawyer licence, which typically adds a year or more.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"faq-question-2\" class=\"rank-math-list-item\">\n<h3 class=\"rank-math-question\">Can I practise law in Thailand with a foreign LL.B.?<\/h3>\n<div class=\"rank-math-answer\">\n\n<p>Not as a licensed Thai lawyer. The licence requires Thai nationality and a degree recognised by the Lawyers Council of Thailand.
