Abusus

Last updated on April 18, 2026

A Latin term of Roman law carried into the Thai Civil and Commercial Code. Abusus refers to the right of a property owner to consume, alter, destroy, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the thing. Together with usus (right to use) and fructus (right to the fruits), abusus forms the bundle of rights that make up full ownership (dominium). In a usufruct the usufructuary enjoys usus and fructus, while abusus remains with the naked owner.
