การรับบุตรบุญธรรมจะสมบูรณ์ต่อเมื่อได้จดทะเบียนตามกฎหมาย แต่ถ้าผู้จะเป็นบุตรบุญธรรมนั้นเป็นผู้เยาว์ต้องปฏิบัติตามกฎหมายว่าด้วยการรับเด็กเป็นบุตรบุญธรรมก่อน
