Sin Sod

Last updated on April 18, 2026

Traditional Thai bride price (สินสอด) paid by the groom’s family to the bride’s parents at the engagement or wedding. Sin sod is expressly recognised by Section 1437 of the Thai Civil and Commercial Code as property transferred to the parents of the bride as consideration for giving her in marriage. It differs from khongman (the engagement gift to the bride herself) and is returned if the marriage does not take place through the bride’s fault.
