เมื่อใดผู้ฝากจำนำสินค้าและส่งมอบประทวนสินค้าแก่ผู้รับสลักหลังแล้ว ผู้รับสลักหลังเช่นนั้นต้องมีจดหมายบอกกล่าวแก่นายคลังสินค้าให้ทราบจำนวนหนี้ซึ่งจำนำสินค้านั้นเป็นประกัน ทั้งจำนวนดอกเบี้ยและวันอันหนี้นั้นจะถึงกำหนดชำระ เมื่อนายคลังสินค้าได้รับคำบอกกล่าวเช่นนั้นแล้วต้องจดรายการทั้งนั้นลงในต้นขั้วถ้าและมิได้จดในต้นขั้วเช่นนั้น ท่านว่าการจำนำนั้นหาอาจจะยกขึ้นเป็นข้อต่อสู้เจ้าหนี้ทั้งหลายของผู้ฝากได้ไม่

English translation
Where the depositor has pledged the goods and delivered the warrant to the endorsee, that endorsee must give written notice to the warehouseman of the amount of the debt secured by the pledge, the amount of interest, and the date on which the debt falls due. On receiving such notice the warehouseman must enter all those particulars on the counterfoil. If they are not so entered, the pledge cannot be set up against the creditors of the depositor.
