คำสลักหลังนั้นต้องเขียนลงในตั๋วแลกเงิน หรือใบประจำต่อ และต้องลงลายมือชื่อผู้สลักหลังการสลักหลังย่อมสมบูรณ์แม้ทั้งมิได้ระบุชื่อผู้รับประโยชน์ไว้ด้วย หรือแม้ผู้สลักหลังจะมิได้กระทำอะไรยิ่งไปกว่าลงลายมือชื่อของตนที่ด้านหลังตั๋วแลกเงินหรือที่ใบประจำต่อก็ย่อมฟังเป็นสมบูรณ์ดุจกัน การสลักหลังเช่นนี้เรียกว่า “สลักหลังลอย”
