คำสลักหลังนั้นต้องเขียนลงในตั๋วแลกเงินหรือใบประจำต่อ และต้องลงลายมือชื่อผู้สลักหลัง การสลักหลังย่อมสมบูรณ์แม้ทั้งมิได้ระบุชื่อผู้รับประโยชน์ไว้ด้วย หรือแม้ผู้สลักหลังจะมิได้กระทำอะไรยิ่งไปกว่าลงลายมือชื่อของตนที่ด้านหลังตั๋วแลกเงินหรือที่ใบประจำต่อก็ย่อมฟังเป็นสมบูรณ์ดุจกัน การสลักหลังเช่นนี้ท่านเรียกว่า “สลักหลังลอย”

English translation
An endorsement must be written on the bill of exchange or on an allonge and must be signed by the endorser. An endorsement is valid even though the name of the beneficiary is not stated, and even though the endorser does nothing more than sign his name on the back of the bill or on the allonge. Such an endorsement is called an endorsement in blank.
