ภายในบังคับแห่งบทบัญญัติมาตรา ๑๐๐๙ บุคคลผู้ใช้เงินในเวลาถึงกำหนดย่อมเป็นอันหลุดพ้นจากความรับผิด เว้นแต่ตนจะได้ทำการฉ้อฉลหรือมีความประมาทเลินเล่ออย่างร้ายแรง อนึ่งบุคคลซึ่งกล่าวนี้จำต้องพิสูจน์ให้เห็นจริงว่าได้มีการสลักหลังติดต่อกันเรียบร้อยไม่ขาดสาย แต่ไม่จำต้องพิสูจน์ลายมือชื่อของเหล่าผู้สลักหลัง

English translation
Subject to Section 1009, a person who pays at maturity is discharged from liability, unless he has acted fraudulently or with gross negligence. Such a person must satisfy himself that the series of endorsements is regular and unbroken, but is not bound to verify the signatures of the endorsers.
