- There are two routes: divorce by mutual consent registered at the district office, or a contested divorce decided by the court.
- Divorce by consent must be in writing and certified by at least two witnesses (Section 1514), and takes effect when it is registered (Section 1515). Both spouses normally attend the district office.
- A contested divorce needs one of the grounds listed in มาตรา 1516 แห่งประมวลกฎหมายแพ่งและพาณิชย์.
- Marital property (sin somros) is divided equally between the spouses (Section 1533).
- The divorce agreement should also settle parental power, child support and any spousal maintenance.
