การใช้เงินเพื่อแก้หน้านั้น ใช้เพื่อคู่สัญญาฝ่ายใดต้องใช้จงเต็มจำนวนอันคู่สัญญาฝ่ายนั้นจะต้องใช้ เว้นแต่ค่าชักส่วนลดดังบัญญัติไว้ในมาตรา ๙๖๘ (๔) ผู้ทรงคนใดบอกปัดไม่ยอมรับเงินอันเขาใช้ให้ ท่านว่าผู้ทรงคนนั้นย่อมเสียสิทธิในอันจะไล่เบี้ยเอาแก่บุคคลทั้งหลายเหล่านั้นซึ่งพอที่จะได้หลุดพ้นจากความรับผิดเพราะการใช้เงินนั้น

English translation
Payment by intervention on behalf of a party must be made for the full amount payable by that party, except the commission provided for in Section 968(4). A holder who refuses such payment loses his right of recourse against those who would have been discharged by it.
