ความเป็นผู้ปกครองสิ้นสุดลงเมื่อผู้ปกครอง (๑) ตาย (๒) ลาออกโดยได้รับอนุญาตจากศาล (๓) เป็นคนไร้ความสามารถหรือเสมือนไร้ความสามารถ (๔) เป็นบุคคลล้มละลาย (๕) ถูกถอนโดยคำสั่งศาล
