traduction anglaise
If the decree requires the payment of money, the delivery of property, the doing of an act, or the forbearance from any act, the court shall state clearly in the decree the period and other conditions within which the money is to be paid, the property delivered, or the act done or forborne; but in a summary case, the court need not allow the judgment debtor more than fifteen days to comply with the judgment or order.
In a case with grounds under Section 272 paragraph two, the court shall allow the judgment debtor not less than seven days to comply with the judgment or order.
The periods under paragraphs one and two shall begin to run from the day on which the judgment debtor is deemed to have known the decree, unless the court has clearly specified, at the time the decree is issued or afterwards, that they shall run from a particular day the court considers appropriate in the interests of justice.
While the period under the decree has not yet expired, or compliance with the methods or conditions in the decree is not yet complete, the judgment creditor may file an ex parte application for the court to order any measure to protect the creditor's interests.
Where the court has made an order under paragraph four, that order shall remain effective as far as necessary to comply with the judgment or order of the court; but if the judgment creditor has not applied for execution within fifteen days from the expiry of the period fixed in the decree for compliance, the order shall be deemed cancelled upon expiry of that period.

Annotation de l'entreprise
Section 273 supplies the substance of the decree that Section 272 requires the court to issue. The core duty is precision: the decree must spell out the period and conditions for compliance, so both sides know exactly what is owed and by when. The section then calibrates the compliance window, capping it at fifteen days in summary cases and setting a floor of seven days where the debtor defaulted under Section 272 paragraph two, with the period running from deemed knowledge unless the court fixes another start date for the sake of justice. Paragraphs four and five give the creditor an interim protective remedy while the period runs, but that protection lapses if the creditor does not move to execute within fifteen days after the compliance period ends.
Pourquoi cela est important en pratique
Read your decree carefully: the period and conditions it states are what actually bind you, and they usually run from the day you are deemed to know it, not the day you are handed it. When counting the days, the first day is generally not included, so the clock starts the day after the decree is served or posted. A creditor should watch the fifteen-day follow-up window, because an interim protective order can lapse if you do not apply for execution in time. If any term of the decree is unclear, raise it with the court rather than guessing.

Supreme Court Judgment No. 7018/2544 (2001)
Under Section 273 paragraph one, where the decree requires payment of money, delivery of property, or the doing of an act, the court must state clearly in the decree the period and other conditions for compliance.
The dispute concerned whether the defendant and dependants could be evicted from the land under a judgment by compromise. The Supreme Court set out Section 273 paragraph one, which requires the decree to state clearly the period and conditions for compliance, and examined the trial court's decree ordering compliance with the compromise agreement, with a warning that property could be seized, against that standard.

Supreme Court Judgment No. 5642/2540 (1997)
The period stated in a decree under Section 273 paragraph three runs from service of the decree, and it is computed under the general time rules so that the first day is not counted; the period begins on the day after the decree is posted.
A decree required a defendant to comply within seven days of receiving it. The Supreme Court applied the general time-computation rules of the Civil and Commercial Code together with Section 273 paragraph three and held that the first day is not counted, so the seven-day period ran from the day after the decree was posted rather than from the day of posting itself.

Foire aux questions
How long does a judgment debtor have to comply with a decree?
The court states the period in the decree. In summary cases it is no more than fifteen days, and where the debtor defaulted it must be at least seven days. The period generally runs from the day the debtor is deemed to know the decree.
When does the compliance period start to run?
It runs from the day the debtor is deemed to have known the decree, unless the court fixes another start date. In counting, the first day is generally excluded, so the period begins the day after the decree is served or posted.
Can a creditor get protection while the compliance period runs?
Yes. Under paragraph four the creditor may apply ex parte for a protective measure. That order lapses, however, if the creditor does not apply for execution within fifteen days after the compliance period expires.
