อันการรับอาวัลย่อมทำให้กันด้วยเขียนลงในตั๋วเงินนั้นเอง หรือที่ใบประจำต่อในการนี้พึงใช้ถ้อยคำสำนวนว่า “ใช้ได้เป็นอาวัล” หรือสำนวนอื่นใดทำนองเดียวกันนั้น และลงลายมือชื่อผู้รับอาวัลอนึ่ง เพียงแต่ลงลายมือชื่อของผู้รับอาวัลในด้านหน้าแห่งตั๋วเงิน ท่านก็จัดว่าเป็นคำรับอาวัลแล้ว เว้นแต่ในกรณีที่เป็นลายมือชื่อของผู้จ่ายหรือผู้สั่งจ่ายในคำรับอาวัลต้องระบุว่ารับประกันผู้ใด หากมิได้ระบุ ท่านให้ถือว่ารับประกันผู้สั่งจ่าย

English translation
An aval is given by writing on the bill of exchange itself or on an allonge. It is expressed by the words "good as aval", or words to the like effect, together with the signature of the giver of the aval. The mere signature of the giver of the aval on the face of the bill is also deemed to be an aval, except where it is the signature of the drawee or of the drawer. An aval must specify for whom it is given; if it does not, it is deemed to be given for the drawer.
