Le Livre VI du Code civil et commercial est entré en vigueur le 1er octobre 1935 (BE 2478). Il a été promulgué simultanément à la loi de modification du Code civil et commercial de la même année (BE 2478). Avant cette codification, les successions en Thaïlande étaient régies par un ensemble disparate de coutumes siamoises prémodernes et de décrets royaux. La loi sur l'égalité du mariage (n° 24, BE 2567), en vigueur depuis le 22 janvier 2025, constitue l'évolution récente la plus significative concernant les règles de succession du Livre VI, en étendant les droits successoraux des conjoints de même sexe.
