An illegitimate child who has been legitimated by his father and an adopted child are deemed to be descendants in the same way as legitimate children within the meaning of this Code.

Firm annotation
Section 1627 deems TWO categories of child to be descendants in the same way as legitimate children: an illegitimate child whom the father has acknowledged, and an adopted child. A description of this section as an adoption provision states only half of it. The practical effect in both cases is that the child is a class 1 statutory heir under Section 1629(1) and inherits on intestacy in the rank of a child. Two points matter in practice. First, the Thai text requires that the father has acknowledged the child, which is not the same wording as the child becoming legitimate under Section 1547; the two provisions should not be treated as interchangeable, and for a father whose child was born outside marriage this is the limb that decides whether the child inherits. Second, adoption does not sever the adopted child's ties to the family of birth (Section 1598/28), so an adopted child may inherit from the adoptive parents and from the birth parents.
