A person may not raise ignorance of the law as a defense to escape criminal liability. But if the Court is of the opinion that, according to the circumstances and conditions, the offender might not have known that the law provides the act to be an offence, the Court may allow evidence to be presented, and if the Court believes that the offender did not know of such provision of the law, the Court may impose a punishment less than that provided by law for such offence to any extent.
