In reducing the death penalty, whether it is a reduction of the scale of punishment or a reduction of the punishment to be inflicted, it shall be reduced as follows:
(1) If the reduction is by one-third, it shall be reduced to life imprisonment;
(2) If the reduction is by one-half, it shall be reduced to life imprisonment or to imprisonment of twenty-five to fifty years.
